Business Intelligence (Power BI) Analyst<br><p></p><strong>Client:</strong> Government of Alberta (GoA) â Technology and Innovation<br><strong>Project:</strong> Digital Regulatory Assurance System (DRAS)<br><strong>Location:</strong> Remote within Canada (Occasional onsite meetings in Edmonton, AB)<br><strong>Duration:</strong> Long-Term Contract (Approx. 18 Months + Possible 6-Month Extension)<br><strong>Hours:</strong> 36.25 Hours/Week (Monday â Friday, Alberta Time)<br><strong>Start Date:</strong> June 2026<br><p></p>About the Project<br><p>The Digital Regulatory Assurance System (DRAS) is a major Government of Alberta initiative led by Environment and Protected Areas (EPA) to modernize, digitize, and streamline environmental and natural resource regulatory processes.<br></p><p>DRAS supports the complete regulatory lifecycleâfrom application and authorization through compliance monitoring, remediation, and closureâusing a single digital platform. As the volume and complexity of data continue to grow, the program requires an experienced Business Intelligence Analyst to provide advanced analytics, reporting, dashboard development, and data-driven insights that support operational and strategic decision-making.<br></p>Key Responsibilities<br><ul> <li>Design, develop, and maintain advanced dashboards, scorecards, and visual analytics using Microsoft Power BI.<br> </li> <li>Build and optimize enterprise reporting solutions using Power BI, DAX, and Power Query.<br> </li> <li>Develop and maintain data models, semantic models, and ETL processes.<br> </li> <li>Integrate Power BI solutions with Azure-based data platforms and on-premises data sources.<br> </li> <li>Collaborate with business stakeholders, data architects, and data engineers to understand reporting requirements and KPIs.<br> </li> <li>Translate business requirements into scalable analytical and reporting solutions.<br> </li> <li>Conduct data analysis to identify trends, patterns, anomalies, and business opportunities.<br> </li> <li>Present analytical findings and recommendations to business and executive stakeholders.<br> </li> <li>Implement and maintain Power BI Service features including scheduled refreshes, alerts, and workspace management.<br> </li> <li>Configure Row-Level Security (RLS), incremental refresh, and performance optimization strategies.<br> </li> <li>Ensure data quality, consistency, governance, and security compliance.<br> </li> <li>Provide end-user support, training, and documentation.<br> </li> <li>Leverage AI-assisted analytics tools to automate insights generation and enhance reporting capabilities.<br> </li> <li>Perform other related duties as required.<br> </li></ul>Mandatory Qualifications<br><br>Education<br><br><br><ul> <li>Post-secondary Degree, Diploma, or Certificate in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Analytics, or a related discipline.<br> <br></li></ul>Experience<br><br><br><ul> <li>5+ years of experience translating business requirements into analytical and reporting solutions.<br> </li> <li>5+ years of hands-on experience designing, developing, and optimizing advanced Power BI dashboards and reports.<br> </li> <li>5+ years of experience with SQL for querying, data transformation, and reporting.<br> </li> <li>5+ years of experience analyzing large and complex datasets.<br> </li> <li>5+ years of experience developing complex DAX measures, calculated columns, and data models.<br> </li> <li>4+ years of experience implementing Power BI Service capabilities including refresh schedules, security, and deployment.<br> </li> <li>4+ years of experience designing business intelligence and analytics solutions.<br> </li> <li>4+ years of experience using advanced data visualization and storytelling techniques.<br> </li> <li>Strong experience working with Azure data platforms and enterprise reporting environments.<br> </li></ul>Preferred Qualifications<br><ul> <li>Experience with source code control and version management practices.<br> </li> <li>Experience leveraging AI-assisted analytics tools and technologies.<br> </li> <li>Experience with Databricks Medallion Architecture.<br> </li> <li>Experience building data products using Azure Synapse Analytics.<br> </li> <li>Experience working with Government of Alberta data environments and datasets.<br> </li></ul>Work Arrangement<br><ul> <li>Remote work from within Canada is required.<br> </li> <li>Resource must supply their own computer and equipment.<br> </li> <li>Windows operating system is preferred for Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) compatibility.<br> </li> <li>Occasional onsite meetings may be required in Edmonton, Alberta (approximately 3â4 times annually or as needed).<br> </li> <li>Travel, accommodation, relocation, and related expenses will not be reimbursed.<br> </li></ul>Security Requirements<br><ul> <li>Criminal Record Check may be required prior to project commencement.<br> </li> <li>Successful candidate must complete mandatory Government of Alberta training, including: <ul> <li>Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIP)<br> </li> <li>Security Awareness Training<br> </li> <li>Other required onboarding courses<br> </li> </ul> </li></ul>Submission Requirements<br><p>Candidates must provide:<br></p><ul> <li>Updated Resume<br> </li> <li>Detailed project descriptions demonstrating required experience<br> </li> <li>Employment history in MMM/YYYY to MMM/YYYY format<br> </li> <li>Three professional references (most recent first)<br></li></ul><br/><br/>Please mention the word **TENACIOUS** and tag RMy44Ni4xNDIuMTA= when applying to show you read the job post completely (#RMy44Ni4xNDIuMTA=).
