Integrated Business Planning Intern

The IBP Intern will support the commercial and operational planning teams by developing sophisticated analytical models. This role is designed to provide a student or recent graduate with hands-on experience in the wire & cable distribution sector, with a specific focus on predictive analytics, while helping DWC gain deeper insights into key market dynamics. The primary goal is to complete a project focused on modeling supply, demand, and price elasticity over the summer term. What are your Duties and Learning Objectives during this Internship? Project Execution Project Management: Define scope, milestones, and deliverables for the core project and proactively track progress and identify roadblocks. Analytical Model Development: Collect, clean, and analyze historical sales, inventory, and market data to build, test, and refine predictive models using statistical software (e.g., Python, R, or advanced spreadsheet functions). Data & Administration: Maintain the integrity of data sets and organize digital files related to the project in the DWC system. Capstone Project: Successfully complete the primary model, culminating in a final presentation and technical documentation. Professional Skill Development Stakeholder Management: Engage key internal stakeholders (Sales, Operations, Finance, Procurement) to gather requirements, validate assumptions, and ensure model utility. Effective Communications: Prepare clear, concise progress reports and summaries, translating complex analytical findings into actionable business insights for non-technical audiences. Effective Presentations: Develop and deliver formal presentations to senior leadership, structuring the model's methodology and implications into a compelling, decision-driving narrative. Collaboration: Attend weekly team and cross-functional meetings to learn about project lifecycles, and actively contribute to discussions by clearly articulating the project's status, challenges, and next steps. Change Management: Support the Director of IBP in preparing the business for model adoption by drafting internal communications and training materials. This may be the right fit for you if you have the following: Must be currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program, or be a recent graduate (within the last 12 months), pursuing a degree in a quantitative field such as: Supply chain management/ Logistics Business Analytics/ Data Science Economics Finance or related quantitative discipline Completion of foundational coursework in: Statistical Modeling or Econometrics Data Mining or Data Warehousing Basic Programming (e.g., Python, R) or Advanced Spreadsheet Modeling Operations Research or Supply Chain Planning Ability to define scope, set milestones, track progress, and manage risks. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to identify key stakeholders, gather requirements, validate assumptions, and build working relationships across different departments (Sales, Operations, Finance, Procurement). Proven ability to translate complex analytical results into clear, concise, and actionable business insights for non-technical audiences. Confidence and skill in developing and delivering formal presentations to senior leadership, structuring a narrative around methodology, results, and business implications. Ability to actively contribute to cross-functional meetings, clearly articulating project status, challenges, and next steps. Foundational understanding of how to support the transition to new tools and processes through drafting communications and training materials. A strong desire to learn and a resourceful, "no task is too small" attitude. Basic knowledge of Google Workspace (Google Suite) for collaboration and documentation. Ability to actively listen and ask clarifying questions to ensure model utility meets business needs. Prior experience (through coursework, part-time work, or a previous internship) in a role that involved data collection, cleansing, and quantitative analysis. Demonstrated ability to manage a long-term project or complex research assignment from definition of scope through final presentation. Experience using data analysis tools (such as Python, R, or advanced Excel/Google Sheets functions) and familiarity with Microsoft/Google Workspace for collaboration. Foundational understanding of business processes, particularly in supply chain, sales, or operations, gained through academic or professional exposure. Any experience in presenting complex data or findings to a non-technical audience is highly desirable.
